F.A.Q.

Where are tutorial sessions held?

We will come to your home for the tutorial sessions. If you prefer a different location, such as a library, coffee shop or school, we can accommodate that as well. We also offer a limited number of tutorials via video web conference. Please contact us for more information.

What academic subjects do you cover?

We can help with virtually every junior high and high school subject. Please see the Tutoring section of our website for details.

What standardized tests do you cover?

We can help with the SAT, the ACT, most SAT Subject Tests and high school entrance exams (HSPT and ISEE). We also work with students preparing for GRE, LSAT and GMAT graduate school tests. Please see the Test Prep section for details.

How do you choose your Academic Mentors?

All of our tutors are highly knowledgeable and experienced educators who have the right skills and personality to motivate and engage students. We require all tutors to have at least 5 years of teaching experience in their subjects of expertise, but most have quite a bit more. For more about our tutors, please see the Team section of our website.

How do you decide which tutor I’ll work with?

Of course, the tutor we recommend must be an experienced educator in the subject or subjects in which the student needs help, and he or she must have the flexibility to work around the student’s schedule. Beyond that, we also consider which tutor will best “click” with the student based on the student’s learning style, interests and motivations. Although it doesn’t often happen, if our tutor and the student aren’t a good match, we will recommend a different tutor immediately.

What schools do your students attend?

Most of our students go to the best private and public schools in and around Los Angeles. For a list of these schools, please see the Our Students section of our website.

What are your rates?

Please see the Rates section of our website.

Do you offer SAT classes?

No. We feel that one-on-one tutoring is a more effective and more efficient approach to SAT tutoring because it allows us to focus only on the techniques that will help the individual student maximize his or her test scores. No time is wasted on questions and issues that the student has already mastered.

What if I don’t live in the Los Angeles area?

We recommend that students find a local tutor whenever possible. However, we occasionally do meet with students outside of Los Angeles via video web conference, telephone and email. Please contact us for details.
